Job Summary:
The Immigrants’ Rights Project at the National ACLU has an opening for a Legal Internship in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA. The Project has been protecting the civil rights and civil liberties of immigrants for over 30 years through litigation and advocacy.
Responsibilities:
- Drafting memoranda, affidavits, and briefs
- Conducting legal and policy research
- Researching prospects for new litigation
- Researching and drafting materials for public education
- Legislative bill tracking and analysis
- Engaging in special projects and other duties as assigned
- Centering principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging in all work
Experience & Qualifications:
- Enrollment at a U.S. law school with at least one year of law school completed before the internship commences
- Excellent research, communication, organizing, and time-management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Initiative to see projects through to completion
- Commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and social justice
Internship Overview:
- Location: New York, NY or San Francisco, CA (in-person, remote, or hybrid positions available)
- Time Commitment: Full-time (35 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week)
- Duration: Fall: September – December, Winter/Spring: January – April, Summer: June – August
- Stipend: Available for those who do not receive course credit; $24/hour for law students
