Job Description Summary:
Performs safety and non-safety certification inspections and field evaluations in accordance with the required performance standards and requirements. Analyzes and evaluates examination and test results against applicable requirements. Uses technical judgment to determine whether noncompliance variations compromise the continued application of the UL Mark and may determine if alternative is acceptable. May audit customer quality management or assurance programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform safety and non-safety certification inspections and field evaluations.
- Analyze and evaluate examination and test results against applicable requirements.
- Use technical judgment to determine noncompliance variations.
- Audit customer quality management or assurance programs.
- Exercise independent discretion and judgment when making technical decisions.
- Interpret and analyze examination and test results against UL requirements.
- Verify the accuracy of manufacturers’ measuring equipment.
- Review production and inspection records.
- Periodically review manufacturers’ programs of production, inspection, and shipping.
- Evaluate and facilitate options for corrective action where variations from UL requirements are noted.
- Communicate with manufacturers, customers, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
- Investigate the misuse of the UL Mark.
- Provide information on policies and procedures for UL services.
- Discuss procedures, test methods, and variations in products.
- Use instruments such as micrometers, voltmeters, ammeters, and other UL supplied equipment.
- Confirm proper calibration of manufacturers’ measuring equipment.
- Document examination, variations, and test results.
- Maintain logs for scheduling inspections, time, and expenses.
- Perform various calculations in engineering fields such as electrical, mechanical, chemical, or fire protection.
- Resolve process, management system, and engineering issues.
- Apply HBSE principles and concepts correctly during VN handling.
- Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct.
- Follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Instrumentation, or a relevant Engineering Discipline.
- Fluency in English.
- Generally no directly related experience or less than 4 years experience may be acceptable.
