Job Summary:
The ACLU of Northern California’s Legal-Policy Department invites law and graduate students to apply for the Racial & Economic Justice Program Internship. Students will engage in legal and policy work to advance program goals, including education equity, housing and homelessness, Indigenous justice, and assets and income.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting legal and factual research
- Drafting legal memoranda, court documents, advocacy letters, analyses, and articles
- Attending appellate and trial court arguments, case management meetings, and depositions when possible
- Investigating facts and possible legal claims arising from intakes received via the Civil Liberties Hotline
- Participating in monthly program meetings to discuss litigation and policy strategies
Experience & Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in law school or a graduate program in Public Policy, Political Science, Journalism, or a related field
- Strong interest in issues related to Racial & Economic Justice
- Experience working with Indigenous communities, Tribes, and/or Native-led organizations or movements for the Indigenous Justice Policy Internship
Internship Overview:
- Location: Sacramento, Fresno, San Francisco, or Remote
- Time Commitment: Full- or part-time with a minimum of 16 hours per week
- Duration: Semester system: 12-14 weeks; Quarter system: shorter quarter-long internships
- Credit: School year interns must earn academic credit
